Warrior (2011) Movie Review

Caught this movie yesterday thanks to Iris for sparing an extra ticket.

Synopsis :
An ex-Marine haunted by a tragic past, Tommy Riordan (Hardy) returns to his hometown of Pittsburgh and enlists his father (Nolte), a recovered alcoholic and his former coach, to train him for an MMA tournament awarding the biggest purse in the history of the sport. As Tommy blazes a violent path towards the title prize, his brother, Brendan (Edgerton), a former MMA fighter unable to make ends meet as a public school teacher, returns to the amateur ring to provide for his family.

My Take :

It's Rocky meets Charlie St. Cloud. Walked into the movie not knowing a thing about the movie except a quick google to see it's rotten tomato scores. The first half of the movie was used to introduce the main characters and it certainly took its own sweet time doing it. I would suggest watching the movie without reading the synopsis at all to make it much more intriguing . The movie only really began in the 2nd act when the fights began, each fight scene had its own back stories and isn't short on emotions. Each blow was gratifying and intense. I can only summarize the ending as epic and if I wanted to be more descriptive it would ruin the ending itself.

Rating :

8/10. Recommended to watch. Bring a family member along. Tips : you may skip the first half of the movie and come in after an hour and still enjoy the movie, though you'll miss the backstory and the drama building up to the 2nd half.

There's just something about fighting that triggers a certain part of my brain.
